Deconstructions
Camera angles
•The scene start by a zooming in camera shot, this shows the main focus of the song and also we get a clear understanding of the background. The background at the start has been created to link the visuals with the lyrics.
•Then there is a low angle shot of the guitar, with footsteps coming towards the camera. This links the girl in the storyline shown at the start to the girl singing the song-Miley Cyrus.
•In this back ground there is an evolving spot light that represents that world. This has been used as a focal point in this take, to differentiate between the singing and the storyline.
•Then there are flashes between her sitting down and singing, the camera moving from a wide shot to a focal point shot. Then when the lyrics change to the story line the camera then moves to the girl walking up a Hill- linking the title with the visuals. This is the part where the audience can see who Miley is singing about, they can see that the lyrics are the focal point in this song,
•The camera now switched between the two characters changing perspective through the camera. The camera now stays eye contact with Miley – this can represent empathy with her.
•The camera then switches to a fast pace over the shoulder shot, to a blurred vision of horses. This is where see the movie trailer that has been merged with the music video. The Movie is Hannah Montana and has been promote through the showing of the music video
•The Movie trailer has been created to make people go and watch the film, were as the music video creates a sense of inspiration – in relation to the lyrics. The camera angles are now position very high, this is for the audience so they feel that there are actually watching them, rather then feel any emotions towards the characters and also let any important storylines be revealed.
•The camera again builds more pace by flashing between the two stories, the camera remains eye level with the singing, but a low angled shot is used to show that she is building confidence by the way she is feeling ( in the lyrics)
•As the song grows pace and the song lyrics are interpreted the camera angles raise to show that the same emotions that the lyrics are trying to portray.
•The girl starts to walk up the hill, the camera pans out showing us her move up the hill. Then the girl sits down, this is an over the shoulder shot as we are looking at her taking her shoes off. I think this is to represent the lyrics in the song that says “it’s not about how fast you get there”. Its shows that by waiting she is growing in self confidence and also presenting a message to the audience.
•The camera then pans a wide angle shot of the sky, with the clouds clearing and the shooting star shooting across the sky. This is a very good way in which the audience know there is still hope and faith- as stated in the lyrics
•Then it starts to rain and the camera gradually gets lower. This is to show that the rain is an obstacle. The reflection in the puddle shows the audience that it is raining; this is an effective way of quickly introducing rain.
•The camera still remains to flash between each story, then gradually as the song reaches its chorus the camera angle changes to a very high angled shot. This shows another link between visual and lyrics. Then the camera is very wide, to show running horses- this represents the “freedom” of the climb- in relation to the song. Gradually as the song progresses Miley has the focal light shone on her, as I feel this represents the world, the light has shown that she as conquered the world and now is in it.
•The camera angle now stays very wide: pans, zooms and focuses many aspects of the lyrics. This is when they introduce another clip from the movie, this is where the goal has been completed and the pace is now very quick. Quickly using every shot to show her accomplishment.
•The end of the song is a wide then a focused zoom on the character standing on a cliff with the sun set. This brings the lyrical context to a close as again its showing that she did “ have faith and kept on trying”- lyrics that have created a very effective
Sound
•There is no sound in this music video except the song that is being promoted. The song is also used as a advertisement for a film so they have specifically only used the lyrics and the visuals to support it.
Editing
•The effects throughout have been created using green screen, meaning that they can important a series of backgrounds to create specific effects. For example the horses have been digitally produced to connect context of the lyrics and the visuals together. This is a very good way in creating effects that a camera might not be able to capture.
•They have also parts of the video very fast paced to show accomplishment and also to emphasize the chorus. They have also added black transitions shots that helps the video run smoothly
